Bathing A Dog

Dogs do not need to be bathed as often as we do - but it is a good idea to bathe your dog from time to time. Try to get your puppy or dog used to the bath or shower at an early age. Bathing a dog will help keep the dog's coat healthy and give it a lovely shine.

Whilst my four legged companion sat beside me I wrote a book which tells the story of The Grey Lady Ghost of the Cambridge Military Hospital which reveals her origins in the QAIMNS and where she meets a QA veteran of Afghanistan. She still walks her wards and tells her story by taking Scott Grey, a QARANC nurse, to the battlefields of World War One and beyond. This is the first in the series of Grey and Scarlet Novels by CG Buswell. Read the first chapter for free.

Brush your dog before bathing to remove excess hairs, tangles and knots.

Put a non-slip mat into the bath to prevent your dog slipping when bathing a dog.

The water temperature should be mild when you give your dog a bath.

If you have one, use a shower hose to wet your dog and to remove the shampoo.

Only use dog shampoo which is specially formulated for dogs' coats.

Rinse the dog with water, using the shower hose or a jug. Apply the shampoo and work into a lather. As you rinse this off check the dog's skin for bumps, scratches, bites and marks. Shampoo around the head and ears last to avoid any shampoo getting into the dog's eyes and ears and causing discomfort.

Thoroughly rinse off the shampoo hen you give your dog a bath to avoid discomfort and itching.

Take a step back - your dog is gonnae have a big shake and wet everything!!

Dry off your dog and try to keep it inside until its coat is thoroughly dry.
