Cushing's Disease in dogs is a disorder of the adrenal glands. It typically occurs in older dogs.
SYMPTOMS OF CUSHING'S DISEASE
Increased Thirst and Urination
Increased Appetite
Lethargy
Thinning Coat and Skin Problems
Restlessness
Panting
CAUSES OF CUSHING'S DISEASE
Cushing's Disease in dogs occurs when the adrenal glands produce too much glucocorticoid when the
adrenal or pituitary glands malfunction or are over active. It is thought that changes in the aging
process may be a cause, as is a tumour or a dog that may recently have had steroid drugs.

TREATMENT OF CUSHING'S DISEASE
Sadly there is no cure for Cushing's Disease in dogs but Vets are able to alleviate most
symptoms as they arise. The disease progresses slowly with most dogs, with some showing
little distress.
If the cause of Cushing's Disease in dogs is due to a tumour, then surgery may be necessary
to excise or reduce the tumour.
Drug treatment centres around reducing the amount of glucocorticoid produced.
