MAKING A GARDEN DOG FRIENDLY

With a few careful steps dogs and gardens can mix, without destroyed flowerbeds and grass and become an area you can both enjoy:

Find Extra Work

  • The urine from female dogs can burn grass giving it a yellow ringed appearance. This can be overcome by feeding her a wee drop of tomato sauce each day - the ingredients neutralise the burning.

  • Avoid using any pesticides, slug killers and chemicals that can be dangerous to your dog's health.

  • Paving will act as a radiator in the summer as it absorbs the heat. Most dogs will love to lie in it in the summer, but do have areas of shade or grassed areas that your dog can access and cool down.

  • If you do have flowerbeds, consider raising these so your dog will not be able to access them to dig. You could provide a sand pit area where he or she can freely dig. Choose a slightly heavier weight sand that will not blow about and which mimics earth density.
