History of Dogs: Dogs are descended from the family of Canidae - beasts of prehistoric prey from about 600
million years ago. Their earliest ancestor was the Cynodictis, a short legged, sabre tailed and
long bodied creature. The wolves and foxes also descended from the Cynodictis.

It is thought that as early as the Neolithic period in Denmark man used to throw scraps of meat to the wild
dogs that gathered around their campfires. Man then saw their use as protectors and hunters, thus
forging an early friendship that exists to this day in the history of dogs.
Throughout the years in the history of dogs, man had bred various characteristic and behavioural traits into
dogs so that they will fulfil
various roles such as herding, hunting, catching vermin, guarding and companionship.
