2. Keep firm hold of the food treat and encourage your dog to follow the treat aiming for it to follow through to its elbow - the dog's hindquarters should start to roll over.

3.Then slowly move the food treat towards the shoulder that is closest to you - your dog should now be fully rolled over onto its side.

4. Move the hand with the food treat towards the ground until your dog's head rests flat on the floor. Your dog should now be fully on its side with its head flat. Immediately give the food treat to your dog and say the words you wish to use for this roll over and play dead command, eg flat, dead, play dead.

5. Repeat the roll over and play dead exercise several times a day until your dog learns the actions, gradually weaning it from the food treat.
