Signs of Dehydration in a Dog

Dehydration in dogs and dog dehydration symptoms:
Before we discuss the signs of dehydration in a dog flat-coats will look at healthy hydration in dogs. To maintain your dog's nutritious state and help it maintain normal functions it needs access to clean fresh water in its own drinking bowl. A dog will need approximately 45 - 50mls of water per kilogram of bodyweight each day. So an averaged sized flat coated retriever will need about 1.5 litres of water each day. This amount will vary for each dog, depending on whether it is fed dry or wet food, the weather, the amount of exercise it gets, etc.

The Drummer Boy
Whilst my four legged companion sat beside me I wrote a book which tells the story of The Drummer Boy. This novel is about the ghost of a Gordon Highlander Drummer Boy from the Battle of Waterloo who haunts a modern day army nurse.

Chapters take place in modern day Aberdeen, at the Noose & Monkey bar and restaurant as well as His Majesty’s Theatre and Garthdee. Other scenes take place at Tidworth and during the Napoleonic War.

Avoid plastic bowls, which are easily chewed and buy metal bowls instead, buying a separate one for the dog's water and food. Wash these daily and provide a fresh supply of clean water several times a day to maintain your puppy's health. It should have ready access to the water throughout the day and at night. If your dog is fed dried food it should have access to water immediately after eating, as it is more likely to be thirsty.

Milk should not be given to adult dogs, as they cannot digest lactose because they do not produce the enzyme lactase, which breaks down the products.

A placemat beneath the dog's bowl will soak up any spillages and stop the bowl slipping and prevent damage to your floor.
