How to cope with dog hair

Flatcoated retrievers are great moulters and will leave piles of hair around the home. There are a few things you can do to reduce their hairy deposits:

Find Extra Work

  • Groom your dog daily with a special dog brush or comb to reduce the amount of hair they moult. It's best to do this outside if it's nice and dry. A grooming mitt will be more comfortable for you and is sensational for the dog! They'll see this as an enjoyable treat as it feels like being stroked.

  • Bath or shower your dog to remove loose hairs and to keep the coat in good condition. It is important to only use special dog shampoo.

  • Treat your dog to a professional makeover at your local dog groomer.

  • Get the vacuum out! I would recommend buying a quality vacuum cleaner. We use an Animal Dyson Cleaner and since doing so we find we spend less time vacuuming the carpets, as it is so efficient.

    Buy a grooming mitt.
